Belarus Took Part in 10th UN Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names

On July 31 — August 10, 2012 delegation of the Republic of Belarus took part in the 10th UN Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names in New York.
The participants of the conference have approved the system for the Roman alphabet transliteration of Belarusian geographical names. The system was elaborated by the State Committee on Property of the Republic of Belarus.
The Belarusian approach to transliteration of the geographical names into the Roman alphabet is based on historic Latin spelling and isin conformity with the international standards for transliteration of the geographic names.
The transliteration system will be used when creating maps, touristic and other documents for international use.
