On the Results of the Participation of Belarusian Delegation in the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On 21 March 2014 the UN Commission on the Status of Women has completed its regular 58th session in New York with adoption of agreed conclusions “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”.

This document summarizes the work of the international community in promoting gender equality and outlines the main areas of cooperation of Member States and the UN organizations in ensuring rights of women and girls in the context of the elaboration of the UN sustainable development agenda beyond 2015.

By the initiative of the delegation of Belarus the important role of the traditional family as a contributor to sustainable development of the society has been reflected in the United Nations document for the first time.


The UN Member States also supported the proposal made by Belarus together with like-minded countries to develop and implement family policies aimed at achieving gender equality and empowerment of women as well as the full participation of women in the society.
