Belarusian delegation participates in the work of the UNECE Committee on Housing and Land Management

On October, 3-4, the Belarusian delegation headed by the deputy Minister of Architecture and Construction Dmitri Semenkevich participated in the regular session of the UNECE Committee on Housing and Land Management.

The head of the Belarusian delegation informed the Committee in detail of the progress achieved by our state in fulfilling the recommendations contained in the Country Profile on the Housing Sector in the Republic of Belarus, prepared in 2006 under the aegis and with support of the UNECE.

A presentation was also offered to the participants of the session, which summarizes the results of the working meeting, organized in Minsk on March 14−17, 2011 by the Belarusian government and UN-HABITAT within the framework of fulfilling the recommendations of the Country Profile on the Housing Sector in the Republic of Belarus Studies, and was devoted to the issue of affordable housing in the Commonwealth of Independent States countries.

The Belarusian delegation introduced a number of specific proposals on the Committee’s work priority directions for the upcoming period, calling for focusing the activities, in particular, on the problems of energy efficient housing, development and implementation of financial instruments to support the projects in the sphere of construction, including the use of public and private partnership mechanisms and principles as well as mutually beneficial construction standards harmonization in the UNECE region.
