On the 21st Resumed Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

On December 6-7, 2012 the 21st resumed session of the UN Committee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which is the working body of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime took place in Vienna. The Belarus delegation headed by Mr.Evgeny Lazarev, Deputy Head of the Department for Multilateral Diplomacy, took part in the session.

During the session the issues of strategic management and the fiscal policy of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as the UN Agenda after 2015 in the context of the Mandate of the Commission, were discussed.

Mr.Evgeny Lazarev marked that crime in all its aspects, including trafficking in persons, prevents sustainable development, and underlined the importance of  the Commission’s efforts in struggling against transnational organized crime, illegal drug trafficking and corruption.

Mr.Evgeny Lazarev drew attention to the UN Global plan of action against human trafficking and the resolution adopted by the United Nations on the initiative of Belarus that show the important role of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

The Belarusian side pointed out that it’s important to work out a mechanism of preventing new forms of transnational crime, including trafficking in persons (organ trafficking, cyber crimes, child pornography).
