Belarusian Delegation participates in the 189th session of UNESCO Executive Board

From February 27 to March 10, 2012 Paris (France) hosts the 189th Session of the Executive Board of UNESCO. Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO, Ambassador-at-Large Vladimir Schastny takes part in the work of the Session.

On March 2 the head of the Belarusian delegation will speak at the plenary session of the Executive Board.

The participants of the meeting will review and discuss the reports of the UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova on the implementation of the program and budget and on results achieved in previous biennium (2010-2011); on measures to implement decisions and resolutions adopted by the Executive Board and the General Conference at their previous sessions.

The Board will also examine the recent decisions and activities of the organizations of the UN system of relevance to the work of UNESCO; the preparation activities to the 3rd International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education.

Among other issues on the agenda are the preparations for drafting the program and budget for 2014-2017; mechanisms for linking the quadrennial program and the biennial budgets in the new program cycle. It is expected that one of the most significant items will be the financial position of UNESCO with regard to the refusal of the United States of America to pay contributions to the regular budget of the Organization.
