FAO Regional Conference Takes Place in Baku

On April 19-20 Baku hosts the 28th session of the Regional Conference for Europe of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Agenda of the meeting includes discussions of trends and challenges in agriculture and food security, as well as a review of the first draft of the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition.

A Ministerial Round Table on policies for food security in the region and food outlook towards 2050 was held during the first day. Head of the Belarusian delegation, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasiliy Sedin spoke at the session, outlining the position of Belarus on reforming the Organization and its operational priorities for short- and mid-term prospective. V.Sedin underlined the readiness of Belarus to be a donor of the food security and its interest in expanding the exports of the agricultural food products.

Within the session the heads of the Customs Union and Common Economic Space member-states, Deputy Ministers of Agriculture of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia held a meeting. The sides discussed the issues related to coordination of initiatives and joint promotion of their interests within the FAO, coordination of the Customs Union members' positions within the context of relations with the World Trade Organization (WTO). The participants agreed to have constant interaction on agricultural issues within the international fora.
