On the Training Seminar on Struggling against Trafficking in Persons

On May 29-30, 2013 the training seminar for the representatives of the law-enforcement authorities of the countries — members of the Group of Friends united against human trafficking takes place in Minsk on the base of the International Training Center on Migration and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.

The seminar is organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus within the project of international technical assistance “Combating Trafficking in Human Beings: New Challenges and Threats” which is realized together with the Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus following the initiative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) by means of voluntary donor funds contributions made by the Russian Federation.

The seminar will be attended by Mr.Yuri Fedotov, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), as well as the representatives of the International Organization for Migration, Council of Europe and the OHCHR.

The seminar is dedicated to the activities of the law-enforcement authorities in the sphere of anti-trafficking, including in the context of protecting the victims of human trafficking. It is expected that the participants of the seminar will exchange experience in combating against trafficking in persons, establish contacts at the level of law-enforcement authorities, discuss the organization of joint investigation activities and other issues.

The Group of Friends was created on the initiative of Belarus in 2010 to support the Global Plan of Action on combating against trafficking in persons. Belarus carries out the functions of the coordinator of the Group.
