Belarusian representative elected deputy head of the United Nations Commission for Social Development

On February 12, 2012 the 1st Meeting of the 51st Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development elected the Bureau of the Commission. Gyan Chandra Acharya (Nepal) was elected its Chair.

Three Vice Chairs were also elected, including a representative of the Eastern Europe regional group Larisa Belskaya – the counselor of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations.

The Group of African States and the Group of Western European States are represented by Egypt and Spain respectively.

“Promoting empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all” was selected as the priority theme for Commission’s fifty-first session.

The program of the session includes review of relevant United Nations plans and programs of action pertaining to the situation of people with disabilities, the youth, the elderly and family, as well as various program and organizational issues.
