On the Consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Latvia on Consular Issues

On June 14, 2013 the consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Latvia on consular issues took place in Minsk.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by Mr.Alexander Ostrovsky, Head of the Consular Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the Latvian – by Ms.Inita Dzene, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.

During the consultations the parties discussed the progress in the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on the simplified procedure of reciprocal travels of the border territories citizens. The delegations agreed that the implementation of the Agreement allowed to develop interpersonal contacts between the citizens and improve bilateral relations.

During the negotiations the parties discussed the possibility of simplifying the procedure of issuing permits for the near-border movements. The sides considered some aspects of Belarusian and Latvian citizens' rights protection on the territories of the two countries, as well as the realization of the applicable legal framework and the prospects of its development.

The parties agreed to hold a regular round of the consultations in 2014 in Riga
