On the Briefing in the UN Headquarters on Combating Trafficking in Persons

On October 3, 2013 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Mr.Valentin Rybakov held at the United Nations Headquarters briefing on combating trafficking in persons for the UN Member States, international and non-governmental organisations.

Mr.Valentin Rybakov informed the participants of the event about the practical steps that Belarus intends to take in the nearest future in the UN to strengthen international cooperation against trafficking and to ensure effective assistance to victims of this crime. Among the priorities of Belarus is the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons and its full and comprehensive implementation by countries, international organizations and other partners.

For the first time, an American non-governmental anti-trafficking organisation ‘Troni Foundation’ along with Belarus, was a co-organiser of the event. The head of this organisation Ms.Rani Hong, on behalf of the civil society thanked Belarus for its consistent and determined position on the global fight against trafficking in persons. She noted that it was the initiative and leadership of Belarus in the United Nations in the area of combating trafficking that helped to fight modern slavery effectively.

Representatives of the Member States, international organizations, civil society expressed their strong support to approaches of Belarus to strengthening cooperation among all partners in the fight against human trafficking.
