Belarusian Delegation participates in the 187th session of UNESCO Executive Board

On September 28 the Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO Vladimir Schastny delivered a speech at the plenary session of the Executive Board of UNESCO as the head of the Belarusian delegation at its 187th session.

The representative of Belarus welcomed the efforts of the Director-General to strengthen the UNESCO positions on the global level, and emphasized the special role of the Organization in developing international cooperation in the area of youth policy. V.Schastnyy noted that an important element of this policy is prevention of violence and human trafficking.

During his speech the head of the Belarusian delegation outlined the national priorities of Belarus in cooperation with UNESCO. He stressed that international experience in the field of vocational education, creation of quality inclusive education systems, development of UNESCO Chairs play an important role in improving national education systems.

V.Schastny informed the Board members that Belarus undertook a number of measures within the International Year of Chemistry, aimed at increasing interest in fundamental sciences and development of interactive learning. The representative of the Belarusian delegation noted that particular support by the UNESCO Member States should be given to the “Memory of the World” program and the World Digital Library, which provide access to the resources of libraries and archives around the world, as well as the activities of the “Man and Biosphere” program as a research and learning platform for sustainable development.
