Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi Visits Belarus

On March, 5-7, 2012 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi visits Belarus. On March, 6 the negotiations between Ali Akbar Salehi and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Martynov are to be held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

There will be a photo and video opportunity. Journalists, interested in covering the meeting should arrive to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ul. Lenina, 19) on March 6 not later than 9.20 am.

Note: Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Iran were established in March, 1993. In December, 1997 the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus was opened in Iran. The Embassy of Iran has been working in Minsk since February, 2001.

The two countries have achieved a high level of political relations. There is an active exchange of bilateral visits.

Within the framework of the legal and treaty basis of bilateral cooperation the sides have signed 36 intergovernmental and interagency treaties, including a package of main economic agreements.

Major Belarusian exports item to Iran are acrylic fiber and tow. Their exports increased in 2011 by 46.6 percent and totaled US $ 60.3 million.

In 2011 Belarus shipped to Iran US$43.1 million worth of trucks (US $26.2 million in 2010), and with the contribution of vehicle sets the exports in this category reach US $46.8mln.
