The Implementation of the Agreement on Cross-Border Movement with Latvia begins

On December 1, 2011, Vitebsk hosted the ceremony of the exchange of the written notices on completion by the Republic of Belarus and the Latvian Republic of the internal state procedures, necessary for entry in force of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Latvian Republic on Facilitation of Mutual Travel by Residents of Border Territories of the Republic of Belarus and the Latvian Republic, signed on August 23, 2010.

The parties to the agreement had two months to create the lists of border area residents eligible for obtaining the permits. This work has been done on time, the exchange of lists took place.

On February, 1 the permitting authorities (the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Daugavpils and Consulate of Latvia in Vitebsk) started issuing the permits for cross-border movement.

According to the Agreement first permits will be granted after consideration within 20 days.

While the work on update and supplement of the lists goes on. The exchange of the edited lists will be held up to April 1, 2012.
