Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko Visits Belarus

On May 17-18 the delegation of Saint Petersburg headed by the Governor Georgy Poltavchenko visits Belarus.

The Russian delegation includes representatives of the business circles of Saint Petersburg.

Partnership of Enterprises of Belarus and Saint Petersburg will be opened at the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on May 17. The program includes a matchmaking session for the companies of Belarus and Saint Petersburg.

On the agenda for May 18 there are the meeting with the Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, 5th meeting of the Belarus — Saint Petersburg Business Cooperation Council, and a visit to “Belcommunmash” company.

During the Council meeting the sides will review the results of the bilateral cooparation in the last year and in the beginning of the current year.

Special attention will be paid to the analysis of implementation of the Program of trade and economic, science and technical, and humanitarian cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of Saint Petersburg for 2009-2011.

New program for 2012-2016 and the Agreement on development of trade and economic relations in food industry will be signed during the meeting.

Note: Bilateral trade in 2011 amounted to US$1 662.4 million and has increased by 31 percent as compared to 2010. Exports grew by $977.5 million (18 percent), imports increased by $684.9 million (55.4 percent). The trade balance is positive for Belarus at the level of US$ 292.6 million.

In January-March of 2012 bilateral trade amounted to US$388.9 million and has increased by 4.9 percent as compared to the same period of 2011. Exports grew by $264.5 million (15.9 percent), imports increased by $124.4 million (12.8 percent). The trade balance is positive at the level of US$ 140.1 million.
