On Signing the Agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

On February 11, 2014 the ceremony of signing of the Project Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on technical assistance for the execution of the project “Improving capacities to eliminate and prevent recurrence of obsolete pesticides as a model for tackling unused hazardous chemicals in the former Soviet Union” took place in Rome.

The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus Ms.Ludmila Nizhevich and FAO Assistant Director-General for Europe and Central Asia Mr.Vladimir Rakhmanin.

Ms.Ludmila Nizhevich and Mr.Vladimir Rakhmanin discussed the implementation of the signed Agreement and the prospects of cooperation between Belarus and FAO, including at the regional level.

Ms.Nizhevich on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Belarus has expressed gratitude to the project contributors, adding that its implementation will contribute to more efficient protection of ecology and population’s health in the region as well as it will propel to the interaction between Belarus and FAO to a whole new level.

Also the Director General of FAO Jose Graziano da Silva delivered to the participants of the signing ceremony his welcome address.

The Head of FAO has mentioned the high quality of the Belarus produced machinery, which is widely spread in countries of Latin America and confirmed his intention to visit the Republic of Belarus.
