On June 13, 2013 during the 4th session of the Conference of the parties to the Convention 2005 on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, Belarus was elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (Committee for Cultural Diversity).

Committee for Cultural Diversity consists of 24 members elected for four years by the Conference of the parties to the Convention. At the on-going Conference 12 new members of the Committee with the mandate till 2017 were elected.

Belarus became the member of the Committee for Cultural Diversity for the first time. The election of our country confirms Belarus’ potential in the sphere of protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. Belarus’ membership in the Committee for Cultural Diversity will allow our country to advocate the interest of Belarus within the realization of the UNESCO Convention and influence the decisions when allocating financial resources of the UNESCO Fund of Cultural Diversity for implementation of projects.

Belarus is the member of the UNESCO Executive Council and the Intergovernmental Committee of the UNESCO Program “Man and Biosphere”. Committee for Cultural Diversity has become the third executive board that includes Belarus as a member.

Mr.Pavel Latushko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO, and Mr.Vasiliy Chernik, Deputy Minister of Culture, take part in the conference.
