05 August 2025

On August 5–6, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, is visiting Jakarta, Indonesia.

Minister M.Ryzhenkov's stay in Indonesia is the first visit on the part of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry since the opening ceremony of the Embassy of Belarus in Jakarta in June 2012.

On the first day of his visit, the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, which took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda, noting similarities in their views on contemporary international and regional challenges, as well as mutual support in international organisations.

M.Ryzhenkov emphasised that Indonesia is considered by Belarus to be a key partner in the region, primarily in the trade and economic sphere. It was noted that there are no topics that are off limits for discussion between our countries.

Plans were outlined to intensify joint work in the areas of humanitarian cooperation, agriculture, cultural exchange, science and technology, as well as the training of Indonesian students at Belarusian universities.

Among other issues, the parties discussed the schedule of mutual visits for the second half of 2025, including visits at the highest level.

During the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, and the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Bakhtiar Najamudin, the high level of political dialogue between Belarus and Indonesia was emphasised.

The Speaker of the Council expressed confidence that cooperation with Belarus in areas of mutual interest would only progress.

An agreement was reached on expanding interparliamentary cooperation.

The Belarusian side considers the Regional Representative Council as a channel for the implementation and promotion of projects in all areas of bilateral cooperation: trade and economic, political, humanitarian, cultural and scientific-technical, and cooperation in the defence industry.

Trade and economic cooperation issues were also in focus, including the implementation of agreements reached following the official visit of the President of Indonesia to Belarus in July 2025.

The planned signing of a free trade agreement between the EAEU and Indonesia by the end of the year – during Belarus's presidency of the EAEU – is expected to significantly increase mutual trade.

The focus on expanding Belarusian-Indonesian cooperation in the agro-industrial sector was confirmed during a meeting between M.Ryzhenkov and the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Zulkifli Hasan. The issue of food security is currently one of the key issues for Indonesia. In this regard, cooperation with Belarus on the supply of agricultural machinery, fertilisers and food products to Indonesia is considered extremely important.

At the same time, Belarus is ready not only to supply food products (meat, milk, poultry, etc.), but also to provide Indonesian partners with technology and full support in the implementation of projects in Indonesia aimed at strengthening the country's food security.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, M.Ryzhenkov, had a detailed conversation with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Andi Amran Sulaiman, which confirmed the existence of a number of promising areas for joint development.

M.Ryzhenkov invited A.Sulaiman to visit Belarus at any convenient time. To make the visit more effective, it was suggested to use major international events, like the Belagro-2026 international exhibition.

The sides agreed to carefully look into and organise further work on supplying agricultural products that are in demand in the Belarusian and Indonesian markets, which will help both countries' economies.
