Belarusian delegation takes part in the session of the UNECE Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies

On October, 31 the 21st Session of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies of the UNECE Committee on Trade opened in Geneva. The Belarusian delegation is headed by Chairman of the State Standardization Committee Valery Koreshkov, who is the Deputy Chairman of this Working Party since 1997.

In his speech at the opening of the Session Valery Koreshkov pointed out that “at present an important role is played by cooperation in the sphere of standardization between all the parties on our continent. It is vital that the work done in the European Union and in the former Soviet republics is properly coordinated and harmonized, so that no extra trade barriers and obstacles arise in the future because of differing standards and approaches to certification”. Head of the Belarusian delegation called for “combining all the positive experience of contemporary international, European and CIS-practices”.

The Working Party will be in session till November, 2. The Belarusian delegation will be making a presentation to convey to its foreign partners the information about the elaboration of standards and technical regulations within the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. The delegation will also speak at the seminar “Traceability: a tool for managing risks”, and will inform the members of the Party about the work aimed at the simplification of trade procedures which is underway in the country.

Note: the UNECE was established in 1947 and today includes 56 European and Central Asian states as well as the USA and Canada. The chief goal of the organization is to encourage economic cooperation in Europe, promote regional integration, trade and economic relations between the states. The Republic of Belarus is a full member of the UNECE since the time of its creation in 1947.

The Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies is a platform for cooperation between the standardization and certification bodies of the UNECE member states and also between test laboratories and representatives of business circles. The Working Party aim is to facilitate the integration of national technical regulations in different countries with the international standards and the best practices.
