On the 1st Session of the Joint Committee on Cooperation between the Government of Belarus and the Government of the United Arab Emirates

On April 24, 2013 the opening of the 1st session of the Joint Committee on Cooperation between the Government of Belarus and the Government of the United Arab Emirates took place in Minsk. The Belarusian part of the Commission was headed by Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the Emirati – by Mr.Anwar Gargash, State Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, met with Mr.Anwar Gargash, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates. During the meeting the parties discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation that are of mutual interest.
The parties signed the Memorandum of understanding on the creation of the Joint Committee on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the United Arab Emirates. From the Belarusian side the Memorandum was signed by Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs, from the Emirati – by Mr.Anwar Gargash, State Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The sides also signed Memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on cooperation in the sphere of higher education and scientific research. From the Belarusian side the document was signed by Mr.Sergei Maskevich, Minister of Education, from the Emirati – by Mr.Anwar Gargash, State Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During the session of the Commission the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in political sphere, interaction in the framework of international organizations, as well as the development of the legal framework of the relations between the two countries. The participants of the session considered the prospects of economic and investments cooperation in manufacturing industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals industry, aviation and tourism.
The sides expressed their willingness to develop cooperation in all spheres, principally in economic and investment spheres.
