On 13 May 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herath, who pays an official visit to our country.

The two ministers held a detailed exchange of views on issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as cooperation on the global stage. They noted the similarity of Belarus’s and Sri Lanka’s approaches to the most topical issues on the current agenda and reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting one another within international organisations.

The ministers agreed on the need to take all measures to realise the potential for economic cooperation, drawing on the example of effective ties in the fields of education and tourism.

The Belarusian side expressed its readiness to actively contribute to Sri Lanka’s socio-economic development, both by increasing supplies of fertilisers and machinery and by training Sri Lankan workers in sought-after specialisations.

Agreements were reached on further intensifying bilateral political contacts, as well as on preparations for holding the 3rd meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Sri Lankan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation by the end of 2026.

The parties agreed to develop a Roadmap for bilateral cooperation for the medium term, covering all key areas of interaction between Belarus and Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan side announced that, in view of the friendly relations between the two countries, Belarus is one of the few countries included in the list of nations whose tourists will be granted electronic visas free of charge.
