On the Participation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mr.Valentin Rybakov in the Session of the UN Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals

On April 2, 2014 Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Mr.Valentin Rybakov delivered a statement during the session of the UN Working Group on sustainable development goals with the emphasis on the approach of the Belarusian side to the social cluster of sustainable development issues.

Mr.Valentin Rybakov drew the participants’ attention to the need to take into account among future sustainable development goals the topic of the family as the natural basis of the social structure contributing to overall development of the whole mankind. According to the Belarusian representative, further global development will depend on how the family as an institution inherent to all cultures and civilizations is empowered to fulfill its social functions and to contribute to eradicating poverty, advancing education, promoting equality, improving health. In this regard, Mr.Rybakov suggested to consider inclusion in the list of sustainable development goals a stand-alone goal on supporting family as a contributor to global development.

In addition, the representative of Belarus supported setting sustainable development goals around important social topics such as gender equality, education, employment and health.
