Statement by the Foreign Ministry in connection with another package of sanctions imposed by the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Canada against Belarus

03 December 2021

The new illegitimate sanctions by the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom against Belarusian officials and entities of 2 December 2021 clearly demonstrate to what degree of cynicism this bellicose democracy promoters are willing to go in their futile efforts to bring down countries and nations they dislike.

Phony pseudo-arguments used by advocates of the sanctions policy stating that “Belarus is undermining the peace and security in Europe” let alone the statements that  ‘Belarus exploits vulnerable migrants' are absolutely groundless.

It is obvious that the crumbling security and the migrant crisis are not the fault of Belarus but of the Western states that have destroyed the peace and traditional way of life in the countries - the origin of most migrants. Moreover, the main flow of refugees and migrants headed to Europe does not go via Belarus. And our Western partners are well aware of this but prefer not to listen to reason.

We have repeatedly stated that all unfriendly anti-Belarusian steps will be mirrored by adequate retaliation measures. The current round of sanctions is no exception.

No one will be able to subdue our country and the Belarusian people with sanctions and restrictions. The only way out of this situation in relations with the West is an equal dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation. We are ready to return to such dialogue and cooperation at any time.
