On September 30, 2014 Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, took part in the general debate of the General Assembly during his stay in New York to participate in the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.

Minister exposed major approaches of Belarus to the international cooperation and to United Nations’ role in this process.

Mr.Vladimir Makei noted that this year Belarus would mark the 70th year since Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders. He called to learn the lessons from World War II, which became the tragedy for the whole humanity. Minister suggested seeking ways for mutual understanding at the international level, to reject the policy of imposition of political and economic models of development as well as of extraneous cultural preferences.

Mr.Vladimir Makei emphasized the need for resolution of international issues by creating global partnerships with the participation from Member states, international organizations as well as civil society. It is in this manner that Belarus proposes to resolve such urgent tasks as negative effect of globalization, inequality, poverty, climate change, consumption of energy, food security, water resources etc. It is in the realm of this approach that Belarus advances in UN such issues as combating human trafficking and strengthening of traditional family.

Belarusian Minister expressed hope that on the way to the next UN summit, which will take place in a year’s time, the international community would be able to ensure progress in grappling with urgent tasks of conflict resolution and international sustainable development.
