08 July 2025

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, continues his visit to Brazil, representing the Republic of Belarus at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on behalf of the Head of State.

In his speech to the heads of state and government at the extended session of the summit on the topic "Environment, COP-30 and Global Health," the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasised the illegality and danger of economic sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed by individual states in conditions where the lives and health of the population are threatened by epidemics, climate change and other negative transboundary and global factors.

At a meeting with the head of the Russian delegation to the BRICS summit, Sergey Lavrov, the parties discussed further coordination of the work of foreign ministries in the UN, BRICS, SCO and other multilateral formats, as well as a number of substantive issues of bilateral political cooperation.

During the negotiations with the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Jessica Rose Alupo, the parties discussed the implementation of agreements reached following the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus to Uganda in February 2025 in areas of mutual interest such as industry, food security, energy and military-technical cooperation.

The parties positively assessed the intensification of bilateral contacts and outlined areas for further development of intergovernmental dialogue. As a first step, a visit by the Vice President of Uganda to Belarus has been scheduled to discuss cooperation in the field of agricultural mechanisation and supplies of Belarusian food products.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Belarusian Foreign Minister also met with the Minister of State of the UAE, Ahmed Al Sayegh and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh. The parties discussed in detail the implementation of intergovernmental agreements reached during official visits to Belarus and meetings with the President of our country.

In his interview to the Brazilian outlets "O Mundo Diplomático" and "Brasília in Foco" in terms of the priorities of Belarus' multilateral policy and bilateral cooperation with Brazil, Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasised that, as a partner country of BRICS, Belarus fully shares the vision and approaches of the organisation defined by Brazil's chairmanship, and hopes to become a full-fledged member of the association as soon as possible and join its main structures, including the New Development Bank.

The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also assessed the current state of relations between Belarus and Brazil, noting possible areas of growth in the economic sphere through the diversification of Belarusian supplies, taking into account the needs and demands of the Brazilian market.
