On Meeting of Belarusian Prime Minister With CIS Executive Secretary

Urgent issues related to activities of the CIS and its bodies were discussed in Minsk on Wednesday by Prime Minister of Belarus Sergey Sidorski and CIS Executive Secretary Vladimir Rushailo.

Vladimir Rushailo noted, economic integration is a priority of the CIS activities. He believes, this year economic development results prove that the CIS states have gone through the stable economy stage and entered the economy growth stage.

Rapid economic growth boosted overseas trade both in mutual trade and trade with the rest of the world.

Vladimir Rushailo emphasized, higher mutual trade between the CIS states contributed to the formation of the free trade area. In particular, according to Vladimir Rushailo, many non-tariff barriers were lifted, deduction lists were reduced, and customs clearance of goods was simplified.

The executive secretary also reminded, the next sitting of the CIS State Leaders Council will be held in Tbilisi on April 28 2005. He informed, Belarus submitted a draft agreement on co-operation in physical culture and sport for consideration of the CIS State Leaders Council. The agreement has been already approved by the CIS Foreign Ministers Council.

Vladimir Rushailo added, the sitting will consider Belarus report on restoration of memorial complex “Brest Hero-Fortress”. “Consideration of concrete aspects of the issue will give another impulse to the historic memory problem, which is so important for us”.
