23 November 2021

On November 22, 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, took part in the High-level meeting on the appraisal of the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which is held in New York on November 22-23, 2021 in hybrid format.

During his address to the participants of the event, Vladimir Makei noted the efforts of Belarus to promote international cooperation in the field of combating human trafficking. The resolutions, which were initiated by Belarus, resulted in the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, the establishment of July 30 as World Day against Trafficking in Persons, and the establishment of the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons to which Belarus is donor. The adoption at the current session of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Belarus of the resolution “Improving the coordination of efforts to combat human trafficking” was welcomed.

The Minister stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to another round of the tragic evolution of the ways of committing crimes in the field of human trafficking, shifting them into the shadow of the digital space and strengthening their cross-border aspect. In this regard, Vladimir Makei urged to continue strengthening and coordinating the cooperation of all states on this topic.
