Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus S.Aleinik participates in the ceremony of special cancellation of a postage stamp «75th Anniversary of the United Nations»

On October 23, 2020, the eve of the United Nations Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus organized a solemn ceremony of special cancellation of the postage stamp “75th Anniversary of the United Nations”.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Aleinik, the UN Resident Coordinator, Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki, and the Director General of the National Postal Operator of the Republic of Belarus "Belpochta", Svetlana Yurkevich, attended the event. The leadership of the specialized agencies and organizations of the UN system accredited in Belarus also took part in the ceremony.

 

 

Background Information: For the commemorative date on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of the UN, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus and the National Postal Operator "Belpochta" prepared a special postal project consisting of an artistic postage stamp, an envelope "First Day" and a special commemorative stamp.

In his statement, S.Aleinik emphasized that the unique "project" of mankind called the United Nations Organization has passed the test by time and continues to play an unconditionally leading role in coordinating concerted actions of the international community to resolve the problems facing mankind. 

Belarus, which was awarded by an invitation to join the founding Member States of the Organization for its’ contribution to the Victory in World War II, took an active part in the formulation of the UN Charter - an anthology of international relations. Belarus put forward unifying and pragmatic initiatives within the Organization and will continue to do it. The Deputy Minister stressed that today the UN needs to cultivate an atmosphere of greater trust and achieve mutual respect for all states, for the triumph of the principles of multilateral cooperation and the rule of law in international relations. This is what the further participation of Belarus in the work of the Organization will be aimed at.

The UN Resident Coordinator I.Kazana-Vishnevetsky delivered welcome remarks as well.

Video materials about the creation of the UN, as well as a photo exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the UN were presented at the ceremony.

The stamp cancellation ceremony is one of a series of festive events in accordance with the joint Event Plan on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the UN, approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Office in Belarus.
