On 8 December, 2022 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Yuri Ambrazevich, held a meeting with the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Population and Development Fund (UNFPA), Yib Petersen.

At the meeting the parties discussed cooperation of Belarus with the Fund, including in the framework of the UNFPA 2021-2025 Country Programme to assist the Government of Belarus in implementing national medical and educational programmes in the field of reproductive health of women and girls, sustainable ageing and gender equality. The Fund's representatives spoke highly of Belarus' achievements in the protection of motherhood and childhood.

The Deputy Minister held briefings in front of the representatives of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement and the countries participating in the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter.

The international partners were informed about the illegality of the economic sanctions imposed by Western countries against our country, about their damaging impact on global and regional trade, food and aviation security and the system of multilateral diplomacy as a whole.

Representatives of foreign states expressed their full agreement with the Belarusian assessments of Western sanctions, condemned their use, pointing to their destructive impact on the potential of any affected country to achieve sustainable development goals.

The Belarusian side also supported the call for the international organizations of the UN system to seek an unbiased assessment of the impact of unilateral sanctions, adopted without the authorization of the UN Security Council, on development issues and thus form a legal basis for their global condemnation and prohibition.

Y.Ambrazevich held a meeting with the permanent representatives of the CSTO member states, as part of which the CSTO partners were presented priorities and plans for its further activities during Belarus' chairmanship. Possibilities of intensifying the work of the CSTO at the UN in New York were discussed.
