MFA Press Secretary Andrei Popov comments on Belarus’ standing with regard to the proposal by Poland and Sweden to establish an “Eastern Partnership”, when asked by BelaPAN

We are certainly aware that the EU Summit on 19 June approved of the proposal by Poland and Sweden to establish an “Eastern Partnership”. For the time being, the proposal is still rather descriptive. Its substance will be shaped up in the spring of 2009 as the European Commission submits its proposals to fill it in with concrete content.

Therefore, it is rather early to talk about where we stand on the general outlines of the document. I can only confirm this: Belarus is interested in the expansion of any form or format of co-operation with the EU which pre-supposes that Belarus and its official representatives take an equal part therein with no pre-conditions.
